Welcome to my FAQ page! Here, you’ll find answers to some of the most common questions about my photography services. If you have a query that’s not covered below, feel free to get in touch.
What kind of photography do you specialize in?
I specialise in natural light photography, capturing natural, candid moments with a soft, organic feel. I think natural light is perfect for headshots & portraits as it captures the subject in their most genuine form.
Where are you based?
I split my time between London and North Yorkshire (my home town!) I’m available for shoots in both areas dependent on availability but from February 2025 I will be based in London. I do often travel between these locations but also find myself elsewhere for acting work! If you’re based somewhere further away, let me know—travel arrangements can often be made.
What is natural light photography?
Natural light photography uses sunlight as the primary light source instead of artificial studio lights. This approach creates a soft, warm, and natural aesthetic, perfect for outdoor locations or spaces with plenty of natural light.
Do you have a studio?
Unfortunately not currently. I have several different shooting locations in both London and North Yorkshire which are the perfect setting for my shoots.
What happens if the weather is bad?
The beauty of natural light photography is that it works in most conditions, even cloudy days. However, if bad weather is forecast, we can reschedule at no extra charge to ensure you get the best possible results. If rescheduling isn’t possible due to weather, I will offer a full refund if you have paid (including deposit).
How should I prepare for the shoot?
• Wear something you feel comfortable and confident in.
• Avoid busy patterns or logos, as they can distract from the natural aesthetic.
• If you’re unsure, I can provide outfit suggestions based on the location and style of the shoot.
• For family sessions, aim for coordinated, but not matching, outfits.
How long does a session last?
Sessions typically last between 1-2 hours, depending on the type of shoot and the location. I aim to keep things relaxed and enjoyable, allowing plenty of time for breaks if needed. Usually before a session we will have a quick chat about what you aim to achieve from the shoot, what you want to use the photos for etc, so allow an extra 10-15 mins for this.
When will I receive my photos?
You will receive a gallery of your photos within the first 48 hours of your shoot. Your edited images will be delivered within 1-2 weeks of the shoot via an online gallery (depending on any editing backlog I may have!) You’ll be able to download high-resolution files and share them with family and friends but please do not share unedited photos publicly – as stated in my T&Cs when you book!
Do you do retouching?
Yes, by default I edit my photos – I will adjust the lighting, colour & temperature. I may crop the photo if I believe it needs more of a focus on you. This is all to make the photo, & more importantly you, stand out. I will also remove any blemishes, under eye bags, stray hairs and I will bring out your eyes, but I will not make you look plastic! If you have something specific you would like editing – please add it to the notes once you’ve picked your edits.
Do you require a deposit to book?
Yes, I require a deposit of £10 for all bookings, which is non-refundable* to secure your booking. This ensures your date is reserved. The remaining balance is due on or before the day of the shoot.
*unless due to bad weather, cancellation before notice period, or photographer absence.
Can I reschedule my session?
Of course! Life happens. If you need to reschedule, please let me know at least 48 hours in advance. We’ll find a new date that works for both of us. If you fail to reschedule or cancel within that time, fees may occur!
Do you work with children and pets?
Absolutely! I offer headshots / portraits sessions for children and can take portraits of pets – always a fun session. I’ll guide the session to keep things fun and stress-free for everyone. For children, please book the U18s package, and for pets please email me.
What if I’m camera shy?
Many of my clients feel nervous at first, and that’s completely normal. My goal is to make you feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. I’ll guide you through the session, so there’s no need to worry about posing. I aim to just capture the best of you being yourself!
How do I book a session?
Simply head over to my Book Now page and select the package you’d like, If you are unsure what to select, or you want to enquire about a group booking or special occasion, send me an email directly at info@lucyirelandphotography.co.uk. Once we confirm the details, I’ll send over a contract and deposit invoice to secure your date.
Thank you for considering me to capture your special moments! If you have any additional questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I look forward to working with you!
